Fireworks return to Canalside for historic celebration of America’s 250th anniversary

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Fireworks are returning to Canalside for the first time since 2019 as part of a daylong celebration marking America’s 250th anniversary.

The free Stars, Stripes & Signers event will take place Sunday, transforming Buffalo’s waterfront into a celebration of American history, culture and community. The event commemorates the anniversary of Aug. 2, 1776, when many members of the Continental Congress began signing the Declaration of Independence after its adoption on July 4.

“It’s a really robust program,” said Lindsay Lauren Visser, Buffalo city historian and Erie County Historical Commission co-vice chair. “We have cultural performances, dances, musicians, marching bands, food, fireworks … so we have something for everyone.”…
