Wynantskill UFSD mourns loss of physical education teacher

WYNANTSKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Wynantskill Union Free School District is mourning the loss of one of its longtime teachers. Dom “M’er” Martino reportedly passed away on July 17 in Albany.

Martino was a physical education teacher at Gardner-Dickinson School for over three decades. According to the district, he had a gift for connecting with every student and staff member.

“Whether he was greeting students and staff with a high-five or a hug, jumping into activities during gym class, or playing cards with students at recess, his kindness, enthusiasm, and ever-present smile made a lasting impact on our school community,” the district said.

According to his obituary, Martino was also a dedicated volunteer at Double H Ranch, where he engaged with children through games, sports, long conversations and laughter. He also reportedly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
