Pennsylvania State Police have responded to 138 calls for service in Duncannon so far this year, including 43 criminal offenses, as borough officials continue working to address traffic and pedestrian safety concerns.
Lt. Kempton Preston, commander of the state police station in Newport, presented year-to-date statistics during Duncannon Borough Council’s July 21 meeting. Troopers have conducted 100 traffic stops in the borough, issued or filed 111 traffic citations and given 105 warnings. They also handled seven crashes and made six driving under the influence arrests.
Preston said there is no state police program that allows municipalities without local police departments to pay for additional coverage. Similar funding ideas have been discussed over the years, he said, but none advanced into law or became an operating program…
