Former IMPD Deputy Chief and gunman wounded in shootout on Indy’s east side

INDIANAPOLIS — Former IMPD Deputy Chief and current Lawrence PD Reserve Lieutenant Bill Benjamin was wounded in the ankle and another man was shot in the chest during a Friday night shootout at a home in the 1900 block of Kildare Avenue.

The homeowner identified the other man as Lamont Johnson, 53, whom she described as an ex-boyfriend who showed up at her home with a gun at about 10 p.m.
