100+ cars block I-75 in ‘street takeover,’ 4 arrested: Florida Highway Patrol

THONOTOSASSA, Fla. (WFLA) — Four people were arrested early Saturday morning after hundreds of cars blocked all lanes of Interstate 75 in Thonotosassa, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At around 1:30 a.m. on August 1, traffic cameras near mile marker 266 showed a large number of vehicles shutting down all northbound lanes and doing burnouts in the road, an arrest report said.

As law enforcement began arriving at the scene, video shows cars fleeing and people rushing to get back to their vehicles.

While most were allowed to leave without receiving charges, a trooper began pursuing a green BMW that fled at a “very high rate of speed,” the report said.

During the chase, the BMW reached 140 mph, double the posted speed limit, before exiting the interstate and finally coming to a stop in a parking lot, FHP said…
