BEREA, Ohio — The first thing you’ll notice isn’t the Ferris wheel. It’s the smell.
Fresh-cut hay. Griddled onions and sausages. Sweet kettle corn. Sawdust. Lemonade. Funnel cakes. Hints of livestock wafting through barn doors and assorted petroleum scents from carnival rides, equipment, tractors and motor-driven grandstand events.
It’s all easy to pick out at the Cuyahoga County Fair, the crown jewel of Northern Ohio’s county fair scene and it’s electric. For one week each summer, the Fairgrounds become a place where Cleveland remembers it still has roots in the countryside…
