The Philadelphia City Commissioners’ Office is bringing free food, music and voter registration drives to Northeast Philadelphia later this month as part of a new summer initiative aimed at closing a persistent gap in voter participation.
Two of the 10 events in the “Beyond the Ballots” series are scheduled at satellite election offices in the Northeast: one on Frankford Avenue on Aug. 20 and another on Grant Avenue in Bustleton on Aug. 25. The city estimates 65,000 eligible Philadelphians are not currently registered to vote, and off-year election turnout has been especially low.

The 6th District Satellite Office at 6420 Frankford Ave. will host its event Thursday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. The 10th District Satellite Office at 1619-1681 Grant Ave. follows on Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 4 to 6 p.m.
