Heavy rain socked the Chicago area on Friday and Saturday, dumping nearly five inches of precipitation in some areas.
The heavy rain taxed drainage systems, caused flash flooding in numerous communities, and sparked numerous flood watches and warnings across the region, with parts of the Chicago area west and south of the city among the hardest hit.
Still the city itself was not spared, as the Loop recorded approximately three inches of rain as a storm system repeatedly drove lines of showers and embedded thunderstorms across the region. That heavy rain led to a four-hour delay in the opening of gates for Lollapalooza in Grant Park, and left concertgoers wading through a muddy mess to enjoy the festivities…
