WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — The 82-year-old matriarch found dead outside her Wyoming home was sweet and occasionally a little salty — but a caregiver at heart, her family says. She got her three grandchildren out of foster care and raised them. Now, nearly 40 years later, police say it was one of those grandchildren who killed her.
James “Jamie” Jackson, 43, faces a charge of open murder in the death of Peggy Dreyer.
“I’m so sad. I’m heartbroken because of both of them,” Dreyer’s granddaughter and Jackson’s sister, Stepheny Petersen, said.

Dryer’s body was found the morning of July 20 lying outside her side door on Marcia Street west of Clyde Park Avenue SW. Wyoming police have not released how she was killed, but records show she is believed to have died the previous day.
Indiana State Police say they arrested Jackson following a high-speed chase in Dreyer’s stolen car south of Fort Wayne — about 3.5 hours after and 160 miles from where his grandmother’s body was discovered…
