BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Prospect Heights drivers can say goodbye to pricey parking tickets and frequent spot swaps.
Starting Monday, 12 Brooklyn streets will test less frequent street cleaning, requiring drivers to only move their cars once per week, rather than twice. The Alternate Side Parking pilot program will last through Sept. 25.

“For years, our office has heard from Prospect Heights residents who have asked whether twice-a-week Alternate Side Parking is still necessary to keep neighborhood streets clean,” City Council Member Crystal Hudson’s office said. “This pilot will help determine whether once-a-week ASP can maintain the same level of cleanliness while reducing the burden on residents.”
Here’s where Alternate Side Parking rules will be reduced:
- Pacific Street from Grand Avenue to Vanderbilt Avenue
- Dean Street from Vanderbilt Avenue to Grand Avenue
- Bergen Street from Grand Avenue to Vanderbilt Avenue
- St. Marks Avenue from Vanderbilt Avenue to Grand Avenue
- Prospect Place from Grand Avenue to Vanderbilt Avenue
- Park Place from Vanderbilt Avenue to Grand Avenue
- Sterling Place from Washington Avenue to Vanderbilt Avenue
- St. John’s Place from Plaza Street East to Washington Avenue
- Lincoln Place from Washington Avenue to Underhill Avenue
- Butler Place from Plaza Street East to Sterling Place
- Underhill Avenue from Eastern Parkway to Atlantic Avenue
- Washington Avenue from Prospect Place to Atlantic Avenue
Don’t let the ASP signs fool you – they’ll remain the same, but enforcement will be restricted to Thursday and Friday. Drivers will only get tickets during their designated pilot day even if the signs say otherwise. ASP tickets cost up to $65 for drivers who don’t move their cars.
Hudson’s office said Prospect Heights was chosen based on cleanliness data and operational factors. The DSNY will evaluate street cleanliness throughout the pilot…
