BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County public transport is partnering with several county agencies to make sure residents seeking relief during the heatwave are able to be alleviated.
The Golden Empire Transit District is collaborating with the Kern County Parks Division and the Department of Aging and Adult Services to help transport customers to cooling centers around Bakersfield when temperatures are forecasted to be 105 degrees or hotter.

“For the health and well-being of residents, GET is partnering with the Cooling Centers to allow customers to have a cooler place for the day” said GET CEO Chris James.
In order to schedule a ride to a cooling center, resident can call GET-A-Lift at 661-869-2GET.

Some of the following cooling centers open for residents and through GET’s program include:
- The Mission at Kern County, located at 816 East 21st St., open daily from 7 a.m. 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., regardless of temperature
- The Rasmussen Senior Center, located at 115 East Roberts Lane, open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This location is closed weekends and holidays.
