SPRING VALLEY, CALIF. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 32-year-old man was arrested in Spring Valley on Sunday on suspicion of arson after he allegedly set an SUV on fire near Sweetwater Road, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office (SDSO) said.
At around 11 a.m. Sunday, deputies from the Rancho San Diego Station responded to reports of a vehicle fire at a Public Storage facility located on Sweetwater Road. A deputy in the area reportedly saw the SUV engulfed in flames and a man allegedly walking away from the SUV.
The deputy reportedly attempted to stop and detain the man, but he fled on foot towards Jamacha Road. As the man fled, he allegedly attempted to discard evidence related to the fire, according to SDSO. Deputies eventually detained him near Jamacha Road.
