TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — Tempe is cracking down on the speed of electric bikes and scooters on city sidewalks and paths under new safety regulations now being enforced by officers.
With electric bikes and motorized scooters capable of reaching speeds near 30 mph, city officials say the new rules are designed to protect pedestrians and riders alike as thousands of Arizona State University students prepare to return to campus.
Under the updated regulations, riders operating any e-bike or e-scooter on a city sidewalk are now capped at a speed limit of 10 mph.
