VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Zander Allen said he is lucky to be alive.
He was back at Eastern Virginia Medical School for a follow-up appointment, where his mother and son were told he is recovering miraculously from the July 1 flash fire that could have killed him.

The 17-year-old Allen suffered second and third-degree burns on more than 15% of his body during the mishap with the fire pit on Atlantic Avenue, in which two 5-year-old twins and a 16-year-old were also hurt.
