Mother arrested after staff finds young child wandering near Louisville airport

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A Michigan woman is facing multiple charges, including abandonment of a minor, after her 11-year-old son was found wandering alone outside the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on Tuesday morning. A second child, was later used as a shield during a confrontation, according to officials.

According to an arrest citation from the Louisville Airport Police, Nicolette Denise Jarrett, 44, of Caledonia, Michigan, was arrested on August 4, 2026, following a search that began when an airport employee spotted the child in a grassy area outside the terminal at around 9:17 a.m.

Child Discovered by Employee

The employee notified Airport Police Officer Sims about the juvenile.

The child told responding officers that his mother had dropped him off at the airport that morning. According to the citation, the child stated that they had fled their home because his mother claimed his father was trying to kill them…
