A new retail strip center that has been built near Bridge Road and Parker Boulevard in Polk City gives the growing metro community a boost as it continues efforts to create a better balance between its residential and commercial property tax bases.
The city of about 6,400 people has grown by nearly 900 residents since 2020, and it is predominantly supported by residential taxpayers, with about 90% of its tax base being residential and only about 10% coming from commercial property taxes, said Chelsea Huisman, Polk City’s city administrator.
