ROCKFORD — A nearly 125-year-old former freight station from the city’s railroad past is set to be revamped in preparation for its passenger rail future.
Kee Solutions, a locally owned general contractor and construction company, is developing plans to renovate the old Chicago Northwestern Freight Station at Cedar and South Church streets, which is along the rail line where the state plans to have its Rockford passenger stop.
The city-owned brick building at 514 S. Church St. would be renovated to have 21-22 apartments, a restaurant and two other storefronts under the plan from Kee Solutions.
