An Austin barbecue heavyweight is headed to Houston

One of Austin’s most popular barbecue joints is expanding again.

Terry Black’s Barbecue will open its first Houston location on Aug. 18, growing the Austin-born empire across Texas.

The new restaurant will open at 1329 N. Shepherd Drive in Houston’s Heights neighborhood. In an announcement shared on Instagram, the restaurant said its team had “worked tirelessly” to prepare for the opening and called it “an honor to become part of Houston’s barbecue scene.”

Black family builds a hospitality empire

The Houston outpost follows years of expansion for the family-owned barbecue brand, which now operates locations in Austin, Lockhart, Dallas, Fort Worth and Waco. Since opening its flagship on Barton Springs Road in 2014, Terry Black’s has become one of Austin’s busiest barbecue destinations, drawing long lines for its smoked brisket, beef ribs and classic Texas barbecue sides…
