Louisville Metro Police plan to release body-camera footage today at 11 a.m. from a July 26 shooting in which an officer shot a burglary suspect who survived. Officers say two suspects ran from the scene when they arrived; one was arrested, but police say the second remains armed with a gun and at large.
According to WAVE3, officers were responding to a reported break-in near the corner of West Broadway and South Fifth Street shortly after midnight when they encountered the two suspects running from the scene. Officer Named Under Critical-Incident Rules
Lt. Brandon Hogan, the officer who fired his weapon, was publicly identified within days of the shooting under LMPD’s critical-incident protocol, which requires the department to publish an involved officer’s identity, photo, assignment, and disciplinary summary within 24 to 72 hours of a shooting. That disclosure rule is why Hogan’s name, rank, and personnel history became public so quickly after the encounter.
Hogan joined LMPD in June 2008 and now serves as a Fourth Division lieutenant. His personnel file includes multiple awards and commendations, the outlet reports. Hogan had already been cleared of wrongdoing in the 2018 Colonial Oaks shooting before the July 26 shooting.
