PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — With less than three weeks until the start of the school year, the Providence Public School District is rounding out its roster of teachers and returning to local control for the first time since 2019.
Currently, there are 30 open teaching positions throughout the district, and Superintendent Dr. Javier Montañez said many of those are specialized positions with a smaller pool of candidates.
“These are hard-to-fill positions, subject areas like math, science,” Montañez said. “We’re also looking at differently-abled teachers that they work with our differently-abled population, those are some of the hard to fill positions, and we’ve done a lot of work trying to recruit in those areas as well.”…
