Union contract talks get underway on Thursday for 2,000 URochester workers

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Talks will get underway on Thursday morning between University of Rochester leadership and two unions representing about 2,000 workers.

Members of 1199SEIU, which represents patient caregivers and service workers at Strong Memorial Hospital and Golisano Children’s Hospital, and 200United SEIU, representing service workers at the URochester River Campus, are working toward a contract.

Union leaders say they’re aiming for an agreement that includes affordable health insurance and higher wages to help retain and recruit more workers. They’re also aiming to improve retirement benefits and paid time off…
