AUSTIN (KXAN) — Maggie Cook Polacheck is described as an “influential yet largely unseen figure of Austin’s 1970s psychedelic creative scene.” Think Armadillo World Headquarters, the “cosmic cowboy” movement, and Willie Nelson’s prime. These were the themes captured and bottled by Maggie’s art, a lot of which remains to be seen by the public, because Maggie’s life was cut short by uterine cancer at the age of 38.
Forty years later, her daughter Angeliska Polacheck — known to most as Sister Temperance, voted Austin’s favorite tarot reader for 12 years in a row — is keeping Maggie’s spirit alive by showcasing her art in an east Austin exhibition.
“One of the things that is really exciting about this show is that we will be displaying my mother’s scrapbooks, which are these like, incredible archives of life, like hippie weirdo life in the 70s in Austin,” Angeliska said.
The show, called “Double Eternity,” will be on display at Blackfeather Gallery Friday, August 7, through Sunday, August 9. August 8 marks the 40th anniversary of Maggie’s death…
