Jacksonville man arrested weeks after street takeover near University Blvd Wawa

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man was arrested more than two weeks after allegedly participating in a street takeover near a Wawa gas station on University Boulevard, according to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office records.

Amir Buie, 21, was taken into custody July 23, 2026, after JSO’s Community Problem Response Unit located him near his apartment on Olevia Street. He faces four charges stemming from an incident on July 5, 2026.

What happened at the Wawa

Just after midnight on July 5, JSO officers were already staged near the Wawa at 1331 University Blvd. N., anticipating a street takeover — a pre-planned event where vehicles and spectators gather to perform dangerous stunts such as doughnuts, burnouts and street racing.

Officers say they observed a large group of more than 10 vehicles — mostly heavily modified Dodge Challengers, Chargers and other muscle cars — blocking fuel pumps and impeding traffic in the parking lot, according to the affidavit.
