Authorities in Pennsylvania have unveiled more details about a recent threat against Governor Josh Shapiro and First Lady Lori Shapiro. According to the Pennsylvania State Police, Corey Alan Bennett, an inmate at SCI Camp Hill, allegedly wrote threatening letters targeting the governor, his wife, and the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg. Bennett, who is serving time for rape and assault charges, has admitted to writing these letters, which were intercepted before reaching their intended recipients.
The letters reportedly included threats of violence using contacts outside the prison, specifically mentioning the Crips gang. Acting State Police Commissioner George Bivens noted that Bennett’s threats are part of a concerning rise in political violence, prompting the creation of a Political Violence Threat Unit earlier this year. “We are keeping multiple investigators busy full time in that unit conducting these investigations,” Bivens told ABC27.
