Battle Creek oversight board completes review of teen’s second detainment

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — The Battle Creek Community Oversight Board said the officers involved in a teen’s second detainment within 10 days this summer underwent counseling and — despite its recommendation — will not be moved from the Washington Heights neighborhood where it happened.

The review was of 16-year-old Jeremiah Spearman’s detainment June 14 — the second time he was detained by Battle Creek Police Department officers while walking in the Washington Heights neighborhood.
