More beloved animals won’t be at the New York State Fair in 2026; new restrictions to blame

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR) — Another beloved animal event won’t be at the New York State Fair in 2026, with restrictions making it tougher to bring animals in and out of the fair.

The N.Y.S. National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) decided not to hold an event at the New York State Fair this year, with concerns over the horses’ health taking top priority.

“With the new regulations that they have put in place about arrivals and departures, we’re more worried about the welfare of our animals,” said Debbie Soule, the director of the state NBHA.
