GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Scattered showers and storms continue daily through Sunday meanwhile the heat is building. By next week, we are heading back to the 90s with feels like temps returning to the triple digits.
Friday: Storms Develop Afternoon Into Evening
A few strong to severe thunderstorms develop this afternoon through early evening, with damaging wind gusts as the primary threat. It looks more active in the mountains but the Upstate can’t rule out isolated showers and storms.
Highs are in the mid to upper 80s across the Western Carolinas. It’s still very muggy, especially between storms to make sure you’re staying well hydrated. Lows dip to the mid-60s to around 70 tonight, with isolated fog pockets possible.
Saturday & Sunday: Afternoon Storms Continue, Heat Builds
Saturday and Sunday are a rinse and repeat forecast as the pattern remains stuck between a high over the desert southwest and the Bermuda high to the east. A few strong to severe thunderstorms develop again, with damaging wind gusts and isolated flash flooding in areas where storms persist as the main concerns.
The mountains experience widespread showers and thunderstorms throughout the day while the Upstate stays isolated to widely scattered both days.
Saturday is the last day with highs in the 80s for the Upstate for the foreseeable future. We top out in the upper 80s. The mountains are in the mid 80s and it’s still quite muggy for all of us. On Sunday, the heat builds as highs jump into the low 90s in the Upstate and the upper 80s in the mountains. Feels like temperatures climb to the low triple digits for the Upstate marking the return of the summer heat.
Monday Through Thursday: Dangerous Heat and Humidity Intensify
The Bermuda high builds west next week, taking rain chance down and the temperatures up. Highs Monday are in the upper 80s to the low 90s with feels like temperatures in the low triple digits for the Upstate.
Tuesday through Thursday are even worse as highs build into the mid 90s for the Upstate and feels like temperatures rise to 102 to around 105.
Make sure you’re staying well hydrated, taking frequent breaks from the heat and wearing light-weight, light colored, loose fitting clothing. The mountains stay slightly cooler but still oppressive. Highs reach the upper 80s.
Each day looks mainly dry, although we can’t completely rule out isolated pop-up storms. The mountains have a slightly better chance for afternoon storms Wednesday and Thursday…
