For Billie and Finneas, everything familiar vanished when the people they depended on packed up and left them behind. The two young puppies suddenly found themselves alone in a backyard, exposed to extreme heat with no family returning to comfort, feed, or protect them. Cats of San Bernardino learned about the puppies after receiving a heartbreaking call from one of their volunteers. Although the rescue normally focuses on cats, the situation was impossible to ignore. Two frightened puppies were alone and desperately needed someone to help them. When rescuers arrived, they found a little brother and sister trying to survive in miserable conditions. Billie, a black female puppy, and Finneas, a brown and black male, were covered in ticks and suffering in the intense heat.
The rescue believes the puppies’ mother had been taken away when their owners moved, while Billie and Finneas were simply left behind. Confused and vulnerable, the siblings had no choice but to wait in the backyard for a family that was not coming back. Cats of San Bernardino knew they could not leave them there. Even without the usual resources or space to take in dogs, rescuers stepped forward and brought the puppies to safety.
A Cat Rescue Couldn’t Turn Away Two Puppies
Helping dogs isn’t normally what Cats of San Bernardino does. The organization primarily focuses its time, resources, and rescue efforts on cats in need throughout the community, which meant taking responsibility for two abandoned puppies presented an entirely different challenge.
