(KRON) — An East Bay suburb that’s mostly known as the site of a former woman’s prison that closed under a cloud of scandal is apparently the best place to live in California. That’s according to U.S. News and World Report anyway, which named the suburban Bay Area city of Dublin as the No. 1 Best Place to Live in California in its recent list.
So, what’s so great about Dublin?
With a population of just over 71,000, Dublin had an overall score of 6.2 out of 10 in the publication’s ranking. The median age in Dublin is 37 and the median household income is $211,868.

Average commute time for Dublin residents is just over half an hour and the unemployment rate, at 3.42%, is below the national average of 4.3%. The median home value in Dublin is around $1.2 million, which the median monthly rent is $2,681.
While that may be considerably higher than the national average, it’s on the average to low side for the Bay Area.
Weather-wise, Dublin makes a good case for itself. With an average winter temperature of 49 and an average summer temp of 70, it’s rarely too hot or too cold.
