I had a nice chat with John Baker, who is the editor of the newly christened Herald-Independent news effort, which encompasses the Canby, Woodburn, and Molalla areas.
In short, it’s a pretty vast area to cover and John has been tasked with trying to do it all by himself. He has no reporters or sports people under his command, and no real office – he does most of it from his home, but does come into Woodburn once a week.
In our talk I asked him about what it was like to have so much that you have to try and keep track of and he reminded me of something I think we all forget – that it wasn’t too many years ago that the individual papers in Canby, Molalla, and Woodburn had their own dedicated staffs…
