Sophia Laforteza of Pop Group Katseye Announces Hiatus to Focus on Mental Health

Just one day before the Head in the Clouds Music & Arts Festival takes place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Sophia Laforteza, a member of the headlining pop group Katseye, has announced she will be taking a break from performing to prioritize her mental well-being.

In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Laforteza expressed how difficult the decision was, emphasizing her deep love for performing and connecting with fans. “It truly breaks my heart to have to miss out on a lot,” she wrote.

“Making this decision wasn’t easy, but I’m learning that health has to come first. If I don’t take care of my mind and body now, I won’t be able to keep doing what I love the most for so long.”

She thanked her fans, known as “eyekons,” for their patience and support, promising to focus on healing and return stronger. The group’s official Instagram account confirmed that Laforteza will temporarily step back from upcoming promotional activities, underscoring the importance of her mental health and wellness.

Medical professionals have advised that she take extended rest and ongoing care to ensure a full recovery. Her progress will be closely monitored, with a reassessment planned for September, coinciding with the start of Katseye’s world tour. Fans can anticipate an update at that time.

This announcement follows a similar hiatus earlier this year by fellow Katseye member Manon Bannerman. As a result, Saturday’s performance at the festival will feature four of the group’s original six members: Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, and Yoonchae Jeung.

Laforteza’s decision echoes recent breaks taken by other artists, including Ariana Grande and country star Jelly Roll, both of whom have spoken openly about the importance of taking time off to heal and focus on personal well-being.

Katseye and their fans await Laforteza’s return as she takes the necessary time to prioritize her health.
