Four Newtown Township Residents Reported Large Scam Losses in Three Days

Newtown Township’s police station sits back from the road behind a lawn and two flagpoles, and over three days last week four residents contacted it to report large sums lost to scams. All four cases are open. Three of the four are with the detective division.

The four sit on the department’s weekly incident list covering July 31 through Aug. 7, posted Friday morning. Six entries are on it. Five of the six are fraud or identity theft, and the sixth is a driving arrest.

The earliest came in at about 9 a.m. on Aug. 4. Someone on the phone had told an older township resident he was calling from the resident’s credit union, and by the time police were told, a large amount of money was gone. The department logged it as elder fraud and the investigation continues…
