I spent many summer nights seeing movies at the Lakeside Theatre in Metairie. I remember it expanded as they added more screens. There was also a Lakeside Cinema closer to the mall. Was there any connection between the two?
The Lakeside Theatre was locally owned and opened in 1965, while Lakeside Cinema, opened in 1967, was owned by the Boston-based General Cinema chain.
According to Rene Brunet Jr. and Jack Stewart’s book “There’s One in Your Neighborhood: The Lost Movie Theaters of New Orleans,” William H. “Bill” Cobb and his partners Dr. Charles Johnson and Dr. William Terrell opened Lakeside Theater at 3526 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in August 1965.
