Tucson I-10 Palo Verde Road Interchange to Close Permanently

The Arizona Department of Transportation will permanently close the Interstate 10 interchange at Palo Verde Road the night of Friday, Aug. 14, as part of an ongoing project to reconstruct and widen I-10 from Kino Parkway to Alvernon Way.

The closure is set for 9 p.m. Aug. 14. The upcoming change is the latest sign of progress on ADOT’s $600 million project to modernize approximately 3 miles of I-10 southeast of downtown Tucson by adding travel lanes and improving interchanges.

The Palo Verde interchange closure will allow crews to further reconstruct the highway after demolishing the existing bridges at Palo Verde and Irvington roads, along with demolishing the existing travel lanes on I-10.

The closure sets the stage for another nearby change. Just west of the Palo Verde interchange, ADOT will open a new interchange at Country Club Road this fall. That interchange is taking shape, with much of the paving complete for the new roadway and ramps…
