SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The next “Big Thing” in our weather is Saharan Dust. That’s a hot and dry layer of air, and it is heading over Florida, The Gulf, and the Caribbean for the coming week. Rain chances will drop as that layer moves in.
Saturday storms brought no rain to much of Sarasota. But the southern part of Sarasota County had more substantial rain totals. In Venice 0.76” fell, and the south side of North Port reported 1.64”.
Sunday will feature widely scattered showers and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon and evening hours. Storms will be hit-and-miss, meaning not everyone will see rain today. Tuesday into next weekend looks drier and more stable. Saharan dust and drier air move over Florida next week. This means lower rain chances and more consistent sunshine. It’ll be hot and humid throughout the week, but that’s August on the Suncoast—nothing out of the ordinary.
