Salmonella, Cyclospora cases raise food safety concerns in Sarasota, Manatee counties

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Two foodborne illnesses are drawing attention across the country, including a growing number of Cyclospora cases here on the Suncoast.

Health officials are investigating a nationwide Salmonella outbreak linked to fresh jalapeño peppers, while Cyclospora infections continue to be reported across the country.

In Sarasota and Manatee counties, there are now 12 confirmed or probable cases of Cyclospora — eight in Manatee County and four in Sarasota County…
