Fifty-year-old Kathleen Michaelis of Clarksville was sentenced to two years in prison after embezzling over $238,000 from a Christian County business.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Kentucky’s Western District, between May 2017 and May 2024, Michaelis worked as a bookkeeper for a local business and used a fraudulent check scheme to embezzle money.
Michaelis reportedly hid her embezzling by not forwarding employee paystub withholdings to the United States Treasury and the company’s retirement plan. She was charged with five counts of wire fraud and was ordered to pay over $291,000 in restitution…
