View from the Top: How Huntsville public radio is rebuilding for another 50 years

Somewhere in the archives of WLRH 89.3FM, there is a photograph.

It was taken on October 12, 1976 – the day before Huntsville Public Radio went on the air for the very first time. 14 people gathered in the lobby of our original home at 222 Holmes Avenue East, the men in double knit wide lapel suit coats, the women in collared blouses and high-waisted skirts. They smiled for the camera. Then, they put the suit coats away and went back to work – fretting, I’m sure, over last-minute technical glitches and wondering if Alabama’s first full-service public radio station would actually be able to sign on the next morning…
