KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — For thousands of people searching for affordable housing in Knoxville, submitting an application can be just the beginning of a wait that lasts anywhere from a few months to several years.
Knoxville’s Community Development Corporation currently has about 13,000 active applications across its affordable housing properties, according to KCDC Chief Housing Officer Sabrina Draplin. That figure does not represent 13,000 individual families because applicants can place their names on waiting lists for multiple communities.

How long someone waits can depend on several factors, including the size of the unit they need, demand for a particular community and how frequently units become available.
“The waitlist times can really vary just based on what they’re requesting,” Draplin said. “It can range from anywhere from a few months to several years.”…
