Vacant lots in several Louisville ZIP codes could soon become side yards, a community garden, and an income-restricted home — if the Landbank board approves a round of dispositions at its upcoming meeting.
The Louisville and Jefferson County Landbank Authority is set to vote on five separate transactions at its Monday meeting, according to the meeting agenda. The properties span the 40211 and 40212 ZIP codes and one parcel in 40208.
Side yards and block-level purchases
Two lots — 353 N. 28th St. and 120 S. 25th St., both in the 40212 ZIP code — are up for sale at $1 each under the “My New Side Yard” program, which lets adjacent homeowners buy a vacant lot to expand their property.
Three more lots at 2307 W. Madison St., 116 S. 25th St., and 332 N. 23rd St. are being sold for $250 each under the “Lot On My Block” program, which allows nearby residents to purchase vacant land.
A community garden on Burnett
A lot at 309 E. Burnett Ave. in the 40208 ZIP code won’t be sold — it’s being leased for $1 a year for up to three years to developers looking to operate it as the “Whistle Pig Patch” community garden.
Affordable home coming to Greenwood Avenue
The most consequential transaction is at 3225 Greenwood Ave. in the 40211 ZIP code, where the Landbank would sell a vacant lot for $500 to New Directions Housing Corporation under its “Build Back Our Blocks” program…
