The Minneapolis Police Department is expected to come in around $23 million over budget this year, similar to last year. A lot of this was due to overtime accrued in the wake of the Annunication shooting and Operation Metro Surge, but facing a looming $33 million deficit, Mayor Jacob Frey’s answer is not to curb that police spending, but just to give them a lot more money this year. Six beaches in Minneapolis are closed because of blue-green algae and elevated levels of E. coli. One can presume Lake Chipotle remains closed for similar reasons…
