CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The chief engineer of the container ship MSC Michigan VII, who pleaded guilty to failing to report a hazardous condition and obstructing a federal investigation following a 2024 runaway ship incident in Charleston Harbor, was sentenced Monday in federal court.
Fernando San Diego San Juan was fined $2,000 and will return to the Philippines.
He has 14 days to appeal his sentence.
