First Alert Weather Day issued for overnight, Tuesday due to severe chance

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The forecast over the next 24-36 hours will be quite fluid as a series of thunderstorms could spill into Northern Indiana and Northwest Ohio.

Even though there’s still quite a bit of forecast uncertainty, my weather team has opted to issue a First Alert Weather Day Tuesday to address the potential for damaging wind gusts.

TIMING

We could see some scattered thunderstorms as early as mid evening (near or after 9 pm), though the coverage and intensity looks much more hit or miss. A more organized complex of storms is possible after midnight and into the early morning hours Tuesday. This could carry with it a damaging wind risk, though a weak tornado is not impossible in this kind of pattern.

After a break midmorning, another cluster of storms could blow through midday Tuesday (11a-4p), bringing the same hazards to our area: damaging wind gusts and the potential for a tornado…
