LAKELAND, Fla. – Drivers traveling through active school zones in Lakeland will face fines starting Tuesday, August 11, as the city transitions its automated speed enforcement program from warnings to paid citations.
The shift coincides with the first day of the new school year. Under the program, drivers caught traveling more than 10 miles per hour over the posted speed limit while school zone flashing lights are active will receive a $100 civil penalty mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner.
