A rollover crash at the intersection of Adams Street and Lancaster Avenue in Wilmington left one vehicle occupant trapped and sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries. Wilmington firefighters and New Castle County Paramedics responded to the scene to handle the entrapment and coordinate emergency transport.
According to Wilmington Fire, responders initially received reports that one vehicle was on fire, but firefighters arriving on scene found no fire once they got there. Crews did find one vehicle occupant trapped inside the wreckage, requiring extrication before that person could be moved. Two people involved in the crash were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, per the same Facebook post detailing the response.
The crash unfolded at a corridor that has drawn significant attention from transportation planners in recent years. The Adams Street and Lancaster Avenue area was reconfigured by the Delaware Department of Transportation as part of an I-95 corridor project, which added dedicated left-turn lanes intended to improve traffic flow and reduce collisions near highway access ramps, according to Delaware Public Media. The intersection also falls within the City of Wilmington’s automated red-light enforcement network, which covers more than 40 high-risk intersections citywide, including monitoring locations along the Adams Street and Lancaster Avenue corridor approved by DelDOT, per the City of Wilmington.
