There is something unmistakably Folly about spotting a dorsal fin break the surface of the water.
Maybe you are walking along the beach, paddling through the Folly River, or looking out across the marsh when, suddenly, a dolphin appears. Sometimes it is just one quick glimpse. Other times, a few seem to surface together before disappearing beneath the water again.
Bottlenose dolphins are a familiar sight around Folly Beach, and there is a good reason for that. The island sits where the Atlantic Ocean meets a thriving network of rivers, salt marshes, tidal creeks, and estuarine waters. For dolphins, that means plenty of room to travel, plenty of habitat to explore, and most importantly, plenty of opportunities to find food.
