Electric infrastructure in NW LA and elsewhere races to keep up; ‘Everyone’s using more power’

The U.S. Department of Energy issued an emergency order on July 26 to allow the Southwest Power Pool to tap into additional resources to meet electrical demand.

Had DOE not issued the order, it would have prompted an Energy Emergency Alert Level 3, triggered when there is not enough backup power available.

Two similar “load shed” incidents that led to rolling blackouts happened in Shreveport and Bossier City in April 2025…
