PORTLAND, Ore. — Life has taught Jeanne Shioshi many lessons, now selfless pearls of wisdom. At 103, Shioshi can still readily smile in spite of the suffering she endured in the learning of some of those lessons.
“We can all be friends and work together,” Shioshi said. “It’s not all about me but it’s about all of us, and that we should try to cooperate and try to make things better. … Life is interesting, so you have to make it better as you go along.”
In 1942, Shioshi’s peaceful life got interesting. The second World War was underway, and President Franklin Roosevelt’s executive orders forced thousands of Japanese Americans into internment camps…
