A San Leandro man was shot in the leg after confronting people he believed had stolen his car, and police have identified the suspect as a 22-year-old Oakland man already facing two pending armed robbery cases. Despite tying a stolen .40-caliber pistol found on the suspect to the caliber used in the shooting, prosecutors declined to file charges over the shooting itself, opting instead for weapons counts.
The suspect, Queyan Turner, was arrested June 30 on suspicion of shooting the man during the confrontation over the stolen vehicle, according to The Mercury News. Police identified Turner as a member of the 69 Ville gang and say he was linked to the shooting because a car he allegedly owns was found at the scene. Turner was never charged over the shooting, and instead pleaded not guilty to felony counts of possessing a concealed weapon and a high-capacity magazine, along with a charge of possessing a stolen pistol at the time of his arrest.
The gun recovered from Turner was a .40-caliber pistol, which the Mercury News reports matches the caliber of the weapon used to shoot the victim in the leg. Even so, prosecutors declined to file a case tied directly to the shooting, leaving the weapons charges as the only counts stemming from the confrontation. Turner was released on $150,000 bail, and a judge ordered him not to possess firearms while out of custody.
A Suspect With a Lengthy Pending Case List
Turner was already facing two separate pending armed robbery cases before the San Leandro shooting. He is a suspect in a 2023 strong-arm robbery in which a 73-year-old man leaving a bank was allegedly robbed of $200,000, though he was never charged in that case, per the same account.
