A Lakeland man convicted of leading a drug trafficking organization that pumped fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and MDMA through Polk County was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years in federal prison. U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday handed down the sentence to 47-year-old Curtis Charles Tinsley in federal court in Tampa.
According to USAO Middle Florida, federal court records show that between April and June 2025, Tinsley’s organization distributed roughly 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, two kilograms of cocaine, one kilogram of fentanyl, and one kilogram of MDMA every month. Investigators documented that Tinsley routinely bought and sold methamphetamine by the ounce or pound, frequently dealing multiple pounds per transaction, while also regularly moving large quantities of fentanyl, per the same office’s announcement.

The sentencing closes out a case that began with a July 2025 federal indictment charging Tinsley alongside 13 other Polk County residents with conspiring to distribute more than 400 grams of fentanyl and 500 grams of methamphetamine. That indictment targeted residents across Lakeland, Winter Haven, Dundee, and Dover, the same office’s release notes. Federal authorities had first filed a criminal complaint against Tinsley on June 6, 2025, according to court records logged on PacerMonitor, meaning prosecutors spent more than a year building the case that ended in Tuesday’s sentence.
Prior Felonies Triggered Harsher Penalties
Tinsley faced enhanced statutory penalties because he committed the 2025 narcotics offenses after previous convictions for serious drug or violent felonies, prosecutors said.
